Katie Salzmann has been Lead Archivist for the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University since 2004. She is responsible for the overall archival administration of the Southwestern Writers Collection, including the accessioning, processing, and preservation of, and reference and digitization services for, the manuscript collections.
Prior to joining Texas State, Ms. Salzmann was Archivist & Curator of Manuscripts for the Special Collections department of Morris Library at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (1999-2004), and Manuscripts Librarian at Howard University’s Moorland-Spingarn Research Center (1996-1999). She is a 1995 graduate of The University of Texas’ School of Information, with a concentration in archival administration. She has been teaching HIST 5375B, Archival Management, since 2005.
This course is designed to introduce students of Public History to the principles and theories behind archival enterprise and to explore the profession of archival management. The class projects are designed to provide students with experience in describing archival collections, conducting research in an archival repository, and reviewing grants for archival projects, and they will stimulate creative thinking about the process and functions of archival administration.
